As a resident of Armonk for 14 years I realized as I began writing that I take for granted so much of what our beautiful town offers.  I feel incredibly fortunate to live in our community, surrounded by parks, woodlands, ponds, locally owned shops, restaurants, outdoor cafes, and simply great people.  Location is paramount – Armonk is about green space and tranquility while being centrally located and incredibly convenient. Armonk is bordered by North White Plains, Pleasantville, Greenwich, Chappaqua, Mt. Kisco and Bedford and we enjoy an enviable commute to NYC without congestion, with a choice of highways and trains to Grand Central Station in as little as 33 minutes. Armonk has something for everyone. For outdoor and athletic types Armonk is loaded with opportunity in its parks, athletic fields, lakes, and countless acres of hiking available in protected green space. With little traffic and nearby trails, a biker’s paradise awaits. One can play tennis, soccer, basketball or baseball or go boating in several public recreation areas. Armonk has a swim club, a golf club, and a community with lakes, tennis & a beach club.  For learning to ski, a mountain is a mere 30 minute drive. We even have the #1 ski and bike shop in the northeast, a haven for outfitting the entire family for seasonal activities.   For the artistic and musically inclined Armonk boasts its very own theater group, several restaurants in town regularly feature live musicians, and summer evenings feature live bands at our gazebo. Every Fall we host the world renowned Armonk Outdoor Art Show featuring hundreds of artists.  Our library offers classes ranging from computer skills to languages and our new senior recreation center offers a variety of programs.  Children’s activities are too numerous to cover here, and Armonk’s award winning Byram Hills School District with its esteemed academic and artistic programs and championship athletic teams make our town a haven for children and their parents. Armonk’s housing stock is diverse, with its fair share of antiques and new construction and everything in between. From town home style gated communities, to condos, walk-to town neighborhoods, and estate area homes, there are great choices to suit every taste and budget.  Armonk is decidedly cosmopolitan in a suburban rural upscale setting as our town center serves not only our residents, but also employees from major corporations located nearby.   Whether you are a “hipster” with a growing family moving up from Williamsburg, a corporate exec, professional, or entrepreneur from the city, a family from any place at all seeking a wonderful community to raise their children, or an empty nester who enjoys the beauty of a conveniently located rural suburb, Armonk is a beautiful place to be.    So instead of asking “WHY ARMONK” – perhaps the question should be “WHY NOT??” Barbara Dunn
